“Misfits” by Aurelia Dey was released on December 10th. Dey has been able to combine her Ghanan and Swedish cultures on her latest track, which also features the musical stylings of Kanyi Mavi and Veronica Odetunde. Being one of the big up-and-coming Afrobeat and dancehall artists, Aurelia Dey has not disappointed fans yet and this latest track continues that trend. Dey is able to pull from several different genres to create the soundscape that is present on “Misfits.”
The message that Aurelia Dey wants to communicate to listeners on “Misfits” is one of the upmost importance, especially in our contemporary society. “Misfits” is all about equality and calling out the injustices against women and Black women in particular. Dey, Mavi, and Odetunde want to convey a message of reclaiming their identities on “Misfits” because of the negative effects that prejudices, biases, and harassment has on an individual’s mental health.
