Judith Haustein, one of the biggest up-and-coming artists to keep your eye on, recently released her latest self-produced album, called The Flood, on February fourth. The Flood is an album truly like no other, having Haustein combine a multitude of different musical genres on each of her album’s twelve tracks. Haustein’s latest work were influenced by her attempt to achieve a return back to truth and authenticity through Haustein’s impressive manner of storytelling.

The lead single off of The Flood is a track called “Freeze,” which features a mixture between the genres of jazz and contemporary trip-hop with some acoustic stylings and flourishes. In “Freeze,” Haustein puts her diverse vocal styles on full display, with the chorus resembling a much more intimate vocal style than the verses. The slow growth of the song, with longing strings getting added as the song progresses, help put the themes of the song on full display. The ending trip-hop section truly drives the message of the song home that emphasizes the amount of pain in the song.
Another single off of Haustein’s The Flood is a track called “Alone By The Water,” which begins with a beautifully haunting introduction. The introduction alone leaves the listener on the edge of their seat waiting to hear what happens next when, out of nowhere, the intense backing beat comes in. The multiple sections of this song each offer something unique that contribute something powerful in its display of the song’s powerful message of authenticity.
