The up-and-coming alternative pop duo from France, Germany, and Zambia, Falling Felon, recently released their self-titled debut album on March 1st with the lead single off of their self-titled album being called “I Just Do The Falling.” The duo that makes up Falling Felon is Apaig Lombé from Zambia and Brieuc Le Meur from France and Germany. After only six months of working together, Lombé and Le Meur were able to complete the album and have been showcasing it off to the world and their growing fanbase.
Falling Felon’s lead single was undeniably the duo’s most anticipated song off their debut album, and rightfully so. “I Just Do The Falling” immediately begins with Lombé’s vocals and the breathing synth sounds over a lightly percussive beat. The atmosphere of this lead single is one of slight mystery while creating a slightly falling feeling, as the title suggests. It takes the song a little while to significantly grow but the wait is definitely worth the wait. The slow growth and the mysterious atmospheres leave the listener with their own thoughts amidst the silence until the synth soundscape and lyrics return for a final word. A song that features the name of both the band and the album, this is one song that should not be forgotten.
“Schwarze Möglichkeit (Black Possibility),” although different from “I Just Do The Falling,” presents a much more driving synthetic beat underneath Lombé’s vocals. The mainly German vocals of Lombé pair perfectly with the driving percussion and the constant chordal beat that gets laid down underneath. Although the lyrics of the song are lost on me since I do not speak German, the music still undeniably grooves hard and creates a somewhat dark and looming backbeat behind the vocals. Le Meur’s influence and experience in the alternative techno scene can definitely be heard in “I Just Do The Falling” but even more so in “Schwarze Möglichkeit (Black Possibility).”Be sure to check out Falling Felon, now on Spotify, and be sure to follow the band on Facebook and Instagram!
