Anna Smerdova is rapidly becoming recognized as one of the leading young talents in classical piano. Born into a family with a strong musical heritage, Anna is the great-great-granddaughter of Josef Bartoš, a significant Czech composer and educator, and was first introduced to the piano by her grandmother, Eva Smerdova, an experienced piano teacher in Prague.
Anna demonstrated musical ability from an early age. By five, she was already interpreting compositions by her ancestor, showing exceptional sensitivity and creativity at the keyboard. Her technical skills and musicality have led her to win major prizes at numerous international competitions, including the Lugano International Music Competition (Switzerland), Artepiano Competition (Italy), Franz Liszt Piano Competition (Spain), OPUS 2024 (Poland), and Wiener Klassik (Austria).
She has studied under distinguished mentors, such as Professor Maria Narodytska at the Tiziano Rossetti International Music Academy and Ivo Kahánek through the prestigious MenART scholarship program. In 2024, Anna performed at the Prague Spring International Music Festival, debuting a rediscovered composition by Josef Bartoš—a milestone that received critical acclaim.
In early 2025, Anna won the Grand Prize at the Concert Artists International Competition, which will lead to her debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall on May 23, 2025.
