Paul Stone & The Basement Collective are proving that meaningful music is often the result of patience, craft and lived experience. Built around the songwriting of Yorkshire-born musician Paul Stone, the project brings together six exceptional musicians with a shared commitment to honesty, emotion and musicianship.
Stone was once described by Music Week as a “self-starter,” a description that continues to define his approach. Rather than waiting for the industry to come to him, he built a professional recording studio beneath his family home, gathered a trusted group of collaborators and began shaping a sound rooted in jazz influences, contemporary songwriting and live musical chemistry.
His latest single, “Brother,” was inspired by the Stage 4 melanoma diagnosis of one of his closest friends, who has since made a remarkable recovery. The song is not written as a tragedy, but as a message of friendship, compassion and support, centred on the idea that no one should have to face their hardest moments alone.
Stone’s career has already included support from BBC Radio 2, playlisting on Jazz FM, a placement on NBC’s The Blacklist and writing the official Tour de Yorkshire theme. He has also met legendary songwriter Diane Warren in Los Angeles, an experience he has credited with helping him believe he belonged in music.
Now a father of four, Stone is releasing songs shaped by family, resilience, relationships and hope. With The Basement Collective, he is building a long-term musical legacy not through hype, but through sincerity, strong songwriting and the kind of emotional truth that lasts.
