For Carmelo Alfano, continuing in music has meant making room for a life beyond it. Becoming a father marked a major turning point and temporarily brought his career to a halt. When his children moved to New Zealand, he travelled to see them twice a year for 15 years; both now live with him. His forthcoming lead single, “Is This You?”, scheduled for 1 September 2026, arrives after a career shaped as much by family commitments as by professional opportunities.

Family had also provided his first introduction to music. His father’s enthusiasm for opera encouraged him to listen closely from an early age, particularly to recordings of Beniamino Gigli. Alfano has wondered whether his eventual pursuit of music was partly a way of growing closer to his father. After initially exploring acting, he undertook vocal training that included two years in Modena with Luciano Pavarotti’s teacher.

London supplied another important part of his development. His band, Alfano, performed at well-known venues, supported James Blunt and briefly shared his management. His wider career brought him into contact with figures including Steve Winwood, Robbie Williams, Bob Geldof, Chris Martin and Nigel Kennedy. Alongside his work as an artist, actor and television sound engineer, he maintained interests in watches, vintage American comics and vinyl records.

Asked to identify his greatest professional achievement, Alfano points to teaching himself what he needed to become self-sufficient in music—and to never giving up. That perspective provides a grounded way to understand his next release, beyond the notable names and unusual encounters in his biography. “Is This You?” marks a new chapter for an artist whose musical ambitions have endured through changing circumstances, long-distance parenting and years of independent learning.
