Irish-based artist Rory & The Island, made up of solely Rory Gallagher, recently released his latest single “Donna Don’t Take My Summer” on August 6th. Originally the lead singer and bassist of The Revs, a pop punk trio, Rory Gallagher has shifted his musical career tremendously since then, shifting genres and the way he has been presenting his new music to audiences, which has largely been through upbeat and quirky social media streams.
“Donna Don’t Take My Summer” sounds straight out of the 1970s and 1980s in the best ways possible, from its music to its lyrics. With lyrical mentions and references to famous icons including John Travolta and Bruce Springsteen, Rory Gallagher excels at painting an upbeat retro pop song. The funky guitars perfectly complement the lyrical melodies to create a happy and danceable summer song.
“After releasing two introvert melancholic songs during the pandemic I decided that with a bit of light at the end of the tunnel to just go crazy with a feel-good bubblegum pop summer song!” – Rory
The music video for Rory Gallagher’s “Donna Don’t Take My Summer” features Rory Gallagher playing every instrument on the song and singing along.
