Patrick Doval, a Miami-based artist with a story to tell, teams up with former drummer of The Offspring, Pete Parada, on his latest single, titled “Soulless Machine,” which was released on June 24th. After Pete Parada’s forced removal from The Offspring, he ran into Patrick Doval and the two instantly connected, in true punk rock fashion, on the basis of anti-establishment themes and ideologies. Patrick Doval has released six albums prior to “Soulless Machine,” but this latest song marks his first, of hopefully many, working with Pete Parada.
“Soulless Machine” serves as an anti-establishment and anti-surveillance anthem, in which a woman is able to free herself from the social bondage of her surveillance state, which can resonate with a lot of people in contemporary society. Taking inspiration from earlier works including George Orwell’s 1984 and Pink Floyd’s The Wall, “Soulless Machine” is a continuation and expansion on those surveillance themes and aims to tell a human story in the midst of hyper-surveillance and media fragility.
Alongside the release of “Soulless Machine,” Patrick Doval and Pete Parada released an accompanying music video, which helps to amplify the themes and ideas present in the single. A heavy emphasis on the media and television are present throughout the music video. Following Patrick Doval uncovering the truths of this dystopian society, the music video pairs exceptionally well with the emotive storytelling and lyricism Patrick Doval is known for. There are certainly elements of our contemporary society running rampant in the music video for “Soulless Machine” and Patrick Doval aims to uncover these scary truths through both visual and audio mediums he is so aptly skilled in.
