The Dublin-based rock group known as Late Night Pharmacy is set to release their latest single, “Is It Because,” on August 8th. Taking influences from trends in alternative rock, post-punk, post-hardcore, and shoegaze, Late Night Pharmacy and “Is It Because” are sure to catch the attention of their fans both present and future.
“Is It Because” embarks on a different path than the rest of the Late Night Pharmacy’s music, which can be best summed up by the band’s own words.
“Unlike most of the songs in the band’s back catalogue, ‘Is It Because’ is a very personal song, with lyrics describing an unrequited romantic attraction in blunt, unsentimental language.” – Late Night Pharmacy
Opening with ethereal noises before the instruments enter the scene, the tone for something mysterious yet genuine is set. The vocalist and lead guitarist then enter at the same time singing and playing in a very complementary style until the chorus where Late Night Pharmacy shifts its tone ever so slightly but ever so meaningfully. Shortly after an instrumental break that highlights the musicianship and talent of Late Night Pharmacy the second verse enters and the tone shifts back to that complementary style where the lead guitarist and lead singer mold and build together.
With a strong lyrical emphasis on a failing relationship, “Is It Because” tries to uncover the reasons why this relationship seemed to fail and who is at fault for its failure. The emotional climax of the song comes towards the end of the song when Late Night Pharmacy’s vocalist pours his heart out asking “Is it because” on repeat. Even the most stone-cold listeners will sink into a contemplative state when this song’s climax hits their ears.
