Sparky’s Magic Piano, the indie pop duo based out of London, is set to release their long-awaited album, entitled Never Twice the Same Colour, on September 9th. Before the full album is released, the duo will be releasing their lead single from the album, called “Last Supper,” on August 19th. Never Twice the Same Colour comes after the release of their 2007 album Feel the Beat and Do it Anyway!, which saw great success at the time.
“We set out making Never Twice the Same Colour with a goal to make an ambitious rock record, wherever possible not confined by the limits of a home studio… I laid down around 30 different violin tracks in the drainpipe and curtains vocal booth to create the orchestra.” – Sparky’s Magic Piano
On “Last Supper,” the group immediately opens with these upbeat pop guitar riffs that make any listener want to jump up and start dancing to the catchy groove. When both members of Sparky’s Magic Piano are singing together, the sound is so seamless, magical, and uplifting. This lovely harmonization comes right before the debut of the chorus that only adds to the beauty of the song’s soundscape. The lyrics to “Last Supper” don’t match the upbeat vibe of the rest of the song but you would have no idea unless you really paid attention to them; the song’s soundscape is so upbeat and happy that the words to the song could be about anything and the song would still be a masterpiece.
Despite “Last Supper” being recorded in the duo’s own home studio, it has the sound quality of something professional grade. Sparky’s Magic Piano has definitely mastered the art of creating three-minute upbeat pop songs.
