Soprano opera singer Angela Hench teams up with rock vocalist Gregory Markel to cover Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Cabellé’s “Barcelona.” Hench and Markel’s version of “Barcelona” serves as a tribute to the jaw-dropping talents that came before them in a perfect blend of opera and rock. This latest version of the hit 1987 single was executive produced by Dick Williams and mixed by the seven-time Grammy Award winner John Jaszcz.
Although Hench and Markel’s version is not an exact replica of the original version, the two powerful vocalists still manage to expertly pull off a beautiful version of “Barcelona.” The inspiring and captivating duet highlights each vocalist’s individual skillset while simultaneously complimenting the other’s.
Despite the challenging task of living up to Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Cabellé’s talent, this modern version of the song comes up pretty close to the original. Angela Hench’s operatic and pop music inspirations give her the ammunition to tackle such a challenge and Gregory Markel’s classic rock influences comes close to matching the energy of the incomparable Freddie Mercury.
