British jazz drummer Pete Cater has announced the release of his new EP West Side Story, scheduled for digital release on May 1st, 2026. The announcement comes alongside two live appearances under The Great Drum Show, adding a performance dimension to a release already rooted in Cater’s long-standing dedication to jazz.
West Side Story stands out not only for its musicianship but also for the way it was created. Recorded in a school hall during the summer holidays, the EP proves that strong production and musical quality are not limited to conventional studio settings. Cater and the musicians involved have shaped a release that reflects both ambition and craft.
Over the years, Cater has become known as a drummer with both technical command and artistic independence. His achievements include being voted 5th Best Jazz Drummer in the World by Rhythm Magazine readers, as well as winning Best Drummer at the Radio 2 National Big Band Contest and Best Big Band at the British Jazz Awards. Now based in West Sussex, he also supports independent music through his own record label.
Cater’s upcoming live performances will take place at Pizza Express, Soho, on May 17th and the Concorde Club in Eastleigh on May 20th. With West Side Story and The Great Drum Show, he continues to demonstrate the energy, resilience, and passion that have shaped his career from childhood to the present day.
