Laura Mazon Franqui’s upcoming album Rojo arrives as both a classical guitar recording and a personal statement. Scheduled for release on May 29, 2026, by Prima Classic, the album explores the emotional and cultural depth of Hispanic and Latin American guitar traditions through a program shaped by Franqui’s own life story.
The recording features music by major figures of the guitar and Latin American concert tradition, including Francisco Tárrega, Leo Brouwer, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Joaquín Turina, Jorge Morel, Carlos Rafael Rivera, and Claudia Montero. These works form a sonic narrative that reflects Franqui’s experiences as a Cuban artist, educator, performer, and advocate for music as a vessel of memory.
Franqui has described Rojo as her story told through music, explaining that the works on the album have accompanied her through growth, celebration, doubt, resilience, and loss. The album was created during a vulnerable period of grief and personal transformation, and its performances are intended to preserve not only polished artistry but also emotional honesty.
