A record-label rejection kept The Bible’s Anticlockwise from reaching audiences in 1989. In November 2026, the self-produced album will finally be released, giving a new outcome to a project that had effectively disappeared from the band’s discography.
The Bible made the record while building on the attention generated by their first two albums, Walking the Ghost Back Home and Eureka. Their single ‘Honey Be Good’ had made an impression on the UK charts, while ‘Graceland’ had further strengthened their reputation for carefully crafted songwriting and memorable melodies.
Conceived as the group’s third album, Anticlockwise brought together singer-songwriter Boo Hewerdine, guitarist Neill MacColl and the band’s distinctive combination of acoustic pop, folk and soul. The release announcement describes intricate arrangements and soulful influences, although it does not give a reason for the label’s decision to reject the recordings.
That decision left the album unavailable for more than three decades. The forthcoming release cannot recreate the circumstances in which it would originally have appeared, but it will allow audiences to hear the music itself and explore a previously missing part of The Bible’s recording history.
