The psych-rock group hailing from Italy, London, and Brighton, known as Lime Juice, released a single entitled “Prince” just yesterday on June 15th. The four-piece band is one of the more eclectic and unique groups in the psych-rock scene and their unique qualities and musical influences are emphasized in their latest single.
Lime Juice seeks to assert itself onto the neo-psych scene while keeping itself grounded in the realities of the present landscape. Before “Prince” was released, the group released a cover of legendary musician and songwriter Brian Wilson’s “Love And Mercy” amidst the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, in an effort to show support.
For their latest single, Lime Juice combines the influences of some of their favorite artists, including King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Tame Impala, along with the influence of a retro video game called “Prince of Persia,” which is where the single gets its title. “Prince” combines the microtonal possibilities that King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are known for with the moments of serenity that Tame Impala utilizes in order to create their much-desired neo-psych soundscape. In terms of the influence that “Prince of Persia” had on the song, Lime Juice added some Arabic influences to complete the sound of “Prince.” To truly understand the influence “Prince of Persia” had on the creation of the single “Prince,” the band’s words express this influence best.
“This inspired guitarist/vocalist Alessandro to including an elaborate narrative telling the story of a Prince. This text subsequently inspired the idea of designing a complex song structure following the narrative flow within the music and that gave us all space to experiment, and that’s how ‘Prince’ was born.” – Lime Juice
